HTMi Switzerland Spearheading the Accor Takeoff! Challenge 2021

HTMi Switzerland is very pleased to announce that we will be sending two teams to the Accor Takeoff! Challenge 2021. Best wishes to team one consisting of Ms. Nicole Pesantes and Mr. Mateo Manjarres both from Ecuador and Mr. Benjamin Juhasz from Hungary and to team two of Ms. Catalina Botea from Romania, Ms. Alsalwy Bashaar from Saudi Arabia and Mr. Htet Oo Hlaing from Myanmar.

Take Off! is the worldwide student competition organized by Accor since 2012. Our competition allows students to be evaluated by Accor professionals and by top tiered school professors with different cultural backgrounds! The competition challenges students from every corner of the globe with various issues connected with the group’s activities, such as loyalty programs, F&B services and lifestyle brands.

The topic for the 2021 Challenge is: Accor hotels in their communities. Let’s focus on the human aspect! where the teams are tasked with answering the question: How can all Accor stakeholders authentically engage with their local community, either through adapting existing initiatives or by creating new projects?

HTMi Switzerland is proud to support the efforts of Accor, the largest hospitality company in Europe, and the sixth largest worldwide. Accor operates in 110 countries and 5100 locations. Its total capacity is approximately 704,000 rooms.

We wish our students the very best of luck and success and hope they make it into the top 5 selected teams who will be invited to attend the Finals in Paris where they will get the privilege to pitch their CSR initiative to Accor Top Management and also have the opportunity of meeting Mr. Meet Sébastien Bazin, Chairman and CEO of Accor.

Safety First and Vaccination for Students – the Beautiful UNESCO Biosphere at HTMi Switzerland

In the beautiful UNESCO biosphere, HTMi has an unrivalled track record of safety during the pandemic, with all appropriate Swiss Government measures in place (masks, temperature control, social distancing, cleanliness and many more). Now after June and later students can start to receive covid vaccination from the Swiss Government (included in school fees). Free testing available too for staying in Switzerland.

HTMi students and staff enjoy an added natural level of beautiful UNESCO biosphere protection by being away from the crowded cities during their everyday lives.

Switzerland is moving towards being one of the safest countries coming through this pandemic, and the HTMi community enjoys the safest place, and we are back, enjoy the movies, and welcome to HTMi Switzerland soon, where we continue to make a difference.

Powered by CISCO – Mastered by HTMi – HTMi Switzerland Virtual Open House

Following a return to full face to face teaching operations, we continue to make a difference by blending our online interactive broadcasting events, following on from the highly successful Global Student Forum.

On 29th April 2021 at 09:00 AM (Swiss Local Time), the very first HTMi Switzerland Virtual Open House was a groundbreaking success where we received registrations of over 250+ attendees, of which 150 were in attendance. The aim of this event has been to provide students with a unique opportunity to experience the learning environment, student lifestyle, on-campus facilities, student application process and academic performance. The vision of the event has been to engage with students directly through a personalised approach, as they would normally have in an actual open house event.

As pioneers of Swiss Hospitality Education, where HTMi Switzerland prides itself to the Leading Hotel Management Institute in the World, our motto ‘Lead, Don’t Follow. Create, Don’t Copy’, the response has been phenomenal. This event allowed over 35 nationalities to connect with HTMi Switzerland and experience a journey of international hospitality & tourism management with our excellent faculty members while having the opportunity to interact with them directly, as well as engage with our excellent students. This gave the attendees an authentic experience of Swiss Hospitality Education at its best.

In the light of COVID-19 globally, HTMi Switzerland has taken a leap forward to overcome challenges and provided every attendee with an experience that would provide them with a detailed overview of HTMi Switzerland campus, and its 6 Centres of Excellence.

The programs of HTMi Switzerland are industrially specific and prepare each student to become an exceptional manager, which is our motto ‘Come as Student, Become a Manager’. Through the exceptional learning facilities, faculty members and hands-on learning approach, we are confident that each student will exceed the industrial standard and employer expectations.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our global partners to join this excellent and unique HTMi Switzerland Virtual Open House Event, and we look forward to the 2nd edition. Stay tuned, more to follow.

News Release – HTMi Switzerland’s Enjoys Success at 25th International Research Conference

HTMi Switzerland saw the closure of its 25th International Hospitality and Tourism Research Conference that took place took on place 21st and 22nd April 2021 at our campus in beautiful Sörenberg.

Day one of the conference saw HTMi Switzerland’s Bachelor of Science (Hons.) students present their research topics in the form of poster presentations to an audience of faculty and fellow students. From all the poster presentations, three BSc students were selected based on the judging to go forward to the final presentations during day two of the conference.

On the first day, we had the privilege of listening to two international guest speakers present online to our global audience through our Cisco Webex platform. The first speaker was Dr. Thomas Sladko, Managing Director, ISPD Protocol & Diplomacy, Oman who discussed the “The Basics of International Protocol for the Hospitality Sector. Soft Diplomacy in the “New Normal” and gave a delightful talk on the importance of protocol, etiquette and diplomacy at international events. This was followed by Mr. Fabrice Tessier, VP School Relations and Partnerships Talent & Culture, Accor, Paris, France who spoke on “Accor’s Vision for the Hospitality Industry in a post-Covid19 World”, which was very insightful for our students to hear about Accor’s global strategy in terms of growth and jobs.

On the second day, we had a further two international guests. Ms. Kylie Thuyen, Human Resources Manager, The Grace Hotel, Sydney, Australia who shared her insights into “Career Opportunities and Growth in Hospitality”. Kylie, herself is a graduate of HTMi Switzerland having graduated in 2008 with a first-class BSc (Hons.) Degree from Ulster University, where She gave much valuable advice to students on the possibilities and scope of the job market in the industry. This was followed by Mr. John Lohr, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Innovation Hosco, Spain who discussed “2021 – Hosco’s Big Bets for the Recovery”. This was of great interest to all students as Hosco is one of the world’s Leading Hospitality Networks for jobs.

The afternoon session saw our three BSc finalists present their research. Ms. Le Thu Thuy from Vietnam presented “The impact of internship experiences on career expectations and career orientations in hospitality and tourism industry: a case of Vietnamese students in Switzerland.”, Ms. Paula Maria Toma from Romania talked about “Medieval Tourism Between Middle Ages as a Modern Tourism Trend and Niche Tourism. Development and Awareness on Transylvania’s Seven Fortresses”, and Mr. Lorant Tamas from Hungary discussed “To Investigate the Recruitability of Disabled Employees in the Hospitality Industry:  Case Study of Front Office Departments in 5-Star Hotels in St. Moritz”.

We thank all our HTMi Switzerland students and international guest speakers for making this 25th conference a true success.
