Programme Objectives and Courses

HTMi brings the expertise of world-class Swiss Hospitality training combined with our advanced Events management practical studies to offer an industry approved master’s qualification. This programme will prepare the student for the industrial workplace that specializes in the management of a range of Events and their practical delivery.

The programme consists of 8 core modules and a final dissertation that will be supervised by one of our Event and/or Hotel Management academic specialists and guidance provided from concept to final submission.

The programme can be completed within a one-year period and will be followed by an opportunity to participate in an Industrial Attachment. Our HTMi Careers Centre will also be on hand to offer expert guidance after graduation and indeed our industry career platform HOSCO will be available to graduates for life.

A practical introductory course designed to provide the information necessary to successfully, safely and efficiently stage events. The course addresses current issues and equips those involved in managing large and small events, with the skills and understanding of producing events confidently. The course provides students with the skills to plan, organise and stage functions and events. The catering and special events industries are among the fastest-growing segments of the hospitality industry. This course will focus on the theoretical and practical elements of planning, executing, delivering and evaluating hotel events.
Learners will actively research contemporary issues, challenges and trends within hospitality, hotels and the tourism industry. In the early 21st century, the dynamic pace of change for front-line managers involved in these industries is rapid and evolving in multi-faceted ways. Future managers are required to be able to identify potential challenges and be able to make measured decisions across a range of problems or matters.
For those studying the complex world of Event management, the optimal way to gain fuller understanding of their management is to manage one yourself! You will be given full support to design, plan and execute a live Event that will be promoted to the local public. Break down of the Event afterwards will be completed also as well as gaining feedback from attendees and providing an Event report detailing its success or otherwise.
Develops the student ability in managing a complex range of issues that the contemporary marketer must have awareness of particularly in relation to the Hospitality Industry. Marketing strategies are examined and particularly so in relation to sustainability and environmental agendas.
This unit aims to enable learners to hypothesise and exercise appropriate judgement regarding the principles and theories of learning in the context of the individual, team and the organisation. The module is designed according to the following domains of creativity:
1. Individual creativity
2. Team creativity
3. Creativity within organisations
Moreover, students will demonstrate and critically evaluate creative solutions in pursuit of personal, group and organisational aims and objectives. Students are expected to undertake an individual and team approach to creative management and development that delivers a guided process of assessment and reflection.
All Events require aspects of design that require creativity, innovation and flair that will capture the imagination of the attendees and contribute to the event experience. This module considers stage design, lighting and direction not only of props but of people too and how to maximise the impacts of sometimes limited resources.
Sporting mega-events are increasingly capturing the imagination of nations and global citizens. The advances made in internet telecommunications allows citizens from almost every part of the world to now be able to see live, mega-events such the football/rugby world cup, the Olympic games, or music festivals such as Summerfest or Glastonbury. The complex management and planning of such events require inputs from a vast number of stakeholders- this module considers the steps required to manage such events.
The culmination of the programme asks the student to write a 12,000-word dissertation that explores an Event focussed challenge or intellectual puzzle that needs to be solved. The student, with a supervisors assistance, will develop a research project that seeks to answer a fundamental question relating to a theme within the Event/Hospitality arena. The student will be required to carry out primary research and analyse and evaluate the results. On completion, students will be encouraged to develop a research paper for publication in an academic journal.

Programme Details

Entry requirements: Bachelor Degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in any discipline, or have minimum of three years suitable experience in the hospitality and tourism industry and suitable academic qualifications.
Age requirements: 20 and above
Language proficiency: Required English level by interview / HTMi test or have TOEFL 547 or IELTS 6 or equivalent HTMi English Placement Test Score.
Prior work experience: None or three years minimum experience in the hospitality or tourism industry if not a degree or a postgraduate diploma holder.

Mode of delivery: Face-to-face, blended learning platforms, online, research, student centred learning, tutorials, lecture, presentations, and applied learning.
Final assessment: Written exams and final projects.
Graduation requirements: 60%
Average student-teacher ratio: 15 students per 1 teacher
Total contact hours: 330 hours full-time
Duration of programme: Academic Study: 20 Weeks and Work Placement / Internship: 20-24 Weeks

Students who successfully complete the programme (academic study and work placement/internship) will be awarded with the Masters (MSc) International Hospitality and Events Management by HTMi Hotel and Tourism Management Institute.
