Katerina Danilova – Swisstouches, China

Hello All,

In June 2010 I finished the MBA PGD course at HTMi Switzerland. During that time I got an offer from Swisstouches Hotels & Resorts, who were opening their first hotel in China, to join their pre-opening team in Xian. I am very excited to not only work on the hotel pre-opening but to experience the development of the new hotel brand. I also like Xi’an, one of ancient China’s capital cities full of history and at the same time fast growing megapolis.

I started working with Swisstouches Hotel Xian in September 2010 in a position of the Brand Training Manager in the Training Department. My responsibilities as a member of the brand training managers’ team include preparing new employees induction training in the company’s brand and culture, ensuring that Swisstouches values are communicated to and lived by every employee in the company, taking part in creating training programmes for the hotel employees’ future development within the organization, and many others. I am very grateful to HTMi and its teachers for sharing their knowledge and experience, as I use them a lot in my professional life.

Because of my position, I have a lot of chances to meet famous people, like Bollywood stars, American singers, Italy opera singer, government’s ministers, ambassadors…
The most impressiveness person is Mr. Bill Clinton, the American former president. Before he arrived, we all so excited and nervous. Because only few people knew that he is coming. For sure, everything went smooth in the end. He is very friendly even took pictures with us.

In the Ritz-Carlton, all the employees have the inpower to create WOW stories for our guests. One of mine even been chosen to be shared with whole Ritz-Carlton in the world.

Oxana Titarchuk – Moevenpick Hotel

Dear all at HTMi,

I graduated from HTMi and started at the Radisson SAS Hotel Dubai Deira Creek, in the heart of United Arab Emirates. This is a wonderful place to work, build your career and meet a lot of different wonderful people. Dubai is a rapidly developing city, especially in the sphere of hospitality. I was very warmly welcomed in this hotel. This is a five-star business hotel where the majority of the guests are entrepreneurs, ambassadors, Doctors of Science etc. This factor makes this hotel highly professional in providing five-star hospitality services. That is why Radisson gives me an invaluable experience and lessons of life as well.

I am very grateful for HTMi in finding this wonderful job to start my career in management. I started as a receptionist in Radisson SAS Hotel. After two months I moved to the Sales and Marketing Department, as an assistant of the Group’s Coordinator. I then took a promotion to be Sales Manager at the Moevenpick Hotel and Residence, Dubai. Till now I am working in a brilliant team of helpful and professional people. Here I realized that I have chosen a right way in my life! I would like to thank all the people who I am working with and of course HTMi and all of the teachers! Best regards and good luck to HTMi students.

Oxana Titarchuk, Russia.

Bruce Zhang – Best Western Hotel, China

Hi Everyone,

I got my MBA Degree in Hospitality in 2009. I was so happy about this, and also I really appreciate all the experience at HTMi.

I am now working for Best Western (China) head office as the manager in charge of member hotel Quality Assurance, Branding Identity and also as a part of Group Purchasing. Last November, I have been receiving training as a qualified BW Quality Assurance Administrator and Auditor.

During a half year member hotels quality audit, I got many chances to meet the hotel owners and managers. Many of them are asking me whether we could recruit some international students to work for the hotels as Management Trainees. The Member Hotels will provide accommodation and salary to students, and after the training is completed the trainees willget aCertificate from Best Western International.

Therefore, I want to offer this opportunity to our HTMi students. I think this is very good opportunity for all graduates. They will have chance to see how China is developing and experience the hotel industry here. This in my view is very good for anyones future career. Best Western International has already had more than 4000hotels in the world, and the BW hotels all are independently operated and owned. But all member hotels have to follow one quality assurance standard. I arrange the audit schedule for each member hotel in China and that depends on the former audit report score. So far we have 62 hotels in China, 35 hotels operating and 27 hotels at pre-opening stage. I believe that there will be a lot of opportunity for students to practice their management skills here.

I really want to do something for our HTMi school. If this really helps our students, that will be my honor.

Best regards and wishes from Beijing.

Fairman Ijai Muhingi – Ole Sereni Hotel

My name is Fairman Ijai Muhingi for those who did not meet me during my school days at HTMi. Here are loads of greetings to the entire HTMi fraternity coming your way from Ole Sereni Hotel in Kenya.

It gives me pleasure to let you know that after my PG Diploma course, followed by the Train the Trainer program in 2007 at HTMi, I joined Constance Hotels and Resorts as a management trainee. Since March last year my traineeship has been very much appreciated by both the management of The Constance Lemuria Resort of Praslin-Seychelles. During my one year internship program here, the management opted to give me an opportunity to serve the Resort as the Night Manager, a responsibility that I assumed since January 2009. As the current Resort’s Night Manager I still look back to my Postgraduate Diploma & Train the Trainer program at HTMi with appreciation since it is the skills and experiences that I gathered at HTMi that helped me move around with ease and be on top of the other Trainees at my hotel in the Seychelles .

I have also been able to lead teams in what is known as Creative Thinking Teams (CTT) and Total Continuous Improvement Teams (TCI) in trying to get solutions to existing issues affecting the operation of the hotel. It would take me the entire day to expound on my experiences there; but my aim is to let you know that I still appreciate every single skill, experience and knowledge got during my one-year at HTMi. I am now the Duty Manager for Ole Sereni Hotel in Kenya.

May God bless and keep you well!

Miruna Nacea – Seytour Travel & Events

Greetings from Romania! After having completed the Diploma course, Training the trainers program, Higher Diploma course at HTMi and finally achieving my goal of receiving the Bachelors, BSc (honours) degree in International Hotel & Tourism Management from Ulster University, UK with first class honours, I reached a point when I am sure that nothing is impossible. After the studies in HTMi I felt ready to face the challenging economic crisis and develop a company that had lost its path during the past years. Even though I was advised by others to take the safe and easy way and start working in a company in Europe and not to take over a business in Romania during the peak of the economic crisis, I learnt in HTMi exactly the opposite:not to take the easy way and have trust in my abilities, take the right decisions after analysing all the chances and risks.

Based on what I have learnt in HTMi, today I am not only the executive manager of a travel agency SEYTOUR TRAVEL & EVENTS & MEDICAL TOURISM with three offices in Romania, I am also trainer at ANAT, the National Association of Tourism Agencies teaching the managers of other tourism agencies how to overcome the economic crisis and see this not as a problem but as a challenge to achieve the desired outcomes. I wouldn’t have been able to have the necessary attributes to manage a company and also to be able to teach and influence others effectively without the support and resources that I gained during my two years spent in Switzerland at HTMi.

The most important part is that HTMi not only helped me to achieve my goals in my career but also made me the person that I am today. The years spent at HTMi were for me a life experience that I will never forget. Thank you HTMi for helping me become the person that I am today.

Rajiv Nayar – Marketing Manager

I am Rajiv Nayar from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. I am a former BA (hons) Graduate from HTMi. I am currently working with the HTMi on their recruitment in South East Asia. This job has given me the opportunity to travel around South East Asia and learn new cultures and meet a lot of new people.

My student experience at HTMi was amazing. I learned many skills in Marketing, Human Resources, Finance and Hospitality Operations to equip me to face the ever challenging but yet fun hospitality industry. I will always remember my first day as a student in HTMi where I nervously walk up the steps of the beautiful Hotel Panorama, only to be greeted by some friendly HTMi staff.

It was a heart warming experience for me. During my recruitment in South East Asia, I was asked by a student about on why I talk with HTMi with so much pride. My reply was, It was an amazing school  and my late father’s last precious gift to me a “BRIGHT FUTURE”.

I will always be proud to wear the HTMi uniform.
