My name is Dominik Krizan and I am Diploma level student at HTMi.

As an HTMi student I am getting wide range of opportunities to implement knowledge I am gaining in classes to real life events such as the Armada Cup.

The Armada Cup is an international rowing championship held annually in Bern and attracts athletes of all ages from around the world. This year’s event was held on Saturday, 29th October 2016, and thirty-two enthusiastic students from HTMi volunteered to help at the International Swiss Regatta competition. During the day different types of races were held ranging from Junior to Master classes. The day finished with the VIP-race where politicians, active and former sport stars compete in a charitable race.

As I have volunteered 2015, I knew what I can expect and I was really looking forward to this year’s edition. Armada Cup 2016 exceeded my expectations, all the students got even greater responsibilities such as managing parking staff and controlling F&B. Apart from working in various departments and gaining knowledge working atmosphere was amazing. All of the students felt like part of the Armada Cup team, and by the end of the day we were all certain that we want to be the ones volunteering next semester.

Not only did we have the chance to meet different athletes, press and media personnel from different countries, it was an excellent chance to gain experience and learn first-hand how a sporting event is organised. 31 colleagues and myself took part and were deployed in various departments such as VIP logistics, press lounge, VIP catering, beverage, media support, transportation, registration and helping athletes with the pontoons before and after the race. The organisers of the event were exceptionally delighted and amazed with the high levels of professionalism, quality, training, teamwork and level of discipline we showed as an HTMi team. At the end of the event, one of the main organisers, Ms. Angie Furrer, told us “we would like to have HTMi back next year as everyone enjoys the HTMi students and having them around”.

This feedback has given me satisfaction and made me look forward to Armada Cup 2017.

Big thank you to HTMi for giving me opportunity to work side by side with other team members on various events in order to build my career.
